Quranic Word Series: Mubeen

The Qur’anic Word is Mubeen =

Mubeen means “clear” or “manifest”. One of Allah’s beautiful names is Al-Mubeen. Allah ﷻ is the ultimate source of clarity. He says:

[Quran 24:25]

On that Day Allah will pay them the recompense of their deeds in full, and they will know that Allah, He is the Manifest Truth.

From this, we see that Allah is the Manifest and all that is affiliated with Him is clear. His Book is clear and His Messengers are clear. His message is delivered in clear language and His signs are clear. His commandments are clear, His prohibitions are clear, and His enemies are clear.

We can witness Allah’s promise for clarity in the Quran.

1) The clear Book

[Quran 15:1]

Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Quran [i.e., recitation].

2) Clear signs

[Quran 24:46]

We have certainly sent down distinct verses. And Allah guides whom He wills to a straight path.

3) Clear language

[Quran 16:103]

And We certainly know that they say, “It is only a human being who teaches him [i.e., the Prophet (ﷺ)].” The tongue of the one they refer to is foreign, and this [recitation, i.e., Quran] is [in] a clear Arabic language.

4) Clear warnings

[Quran 16:82]

But if they turn away, [O Muḥammad] – then only upon you is [responsibility for] clear notification.

5) Clear commandments and prohibitions

The Prophet, may the peace and blessing of Allah be upon him, said:

[Bukhari & Muslim]

On the authority of an-Nu’man ibn Basheer (ra), who said:I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say, “That which is lawful is clear and that which is unlawful is clear, and between the two of them are doubtful matters about which many people do not know

6) The clear enemy

[Quran 2:168]

O mankind, eat from whatever is on earth [that is] lawful and good and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.

Sometimes, we are blinded from seeing something that is clear. Allah ﷻ warns all of mankind that shaytaan is our clear enemy, yet we still fall for his lies and whispers. Although Allah had warned Prophet Adam (A.S.) and Hawa (A.S.) that shaytaan was their clear enemy, they were still tricked by shaytaan into eating from the tree and expelled from Jannah as a result.

Allah says;

[Quran 7:22]

So he made them fall, through deception. And when they tasted of the tree, their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten together over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And their Lord called to them, “Did I not forbid you from that tree and tell you that Satan is to you a clear enemy?”

7) Clear judgment

[Quran 4:19]

O you who have believed, it is not lawful for you to inherit women by compulsion.1 And do not make difficulties for them in order to take [back] part of what you gave them unless they commit a clear immorality [i.e., adultery].

This verse explains that a man is not supposed to take back what he has given a woman of dowry unless a clear judgment is established. This clear judgment is that she has committed clear immorality. If it is not clear, and the husband insists, then they should go by swearing upon Allah’s name to make the matter clear.

This is because Allah loves clarity. Therefore, the one that acts based on clarity cannot be compared with the one where the evil of his work has been made attractive to him. Allah says:

[Quran 47:14]

So is he who is on clear evidence from his Lord like him to whom the evil of his work has been made attractive and they follow their [own] desires?

After every evidence has been presented clearly to us by Allah, whoever disbelieves will be destroyed based on clear evidence while whoever believes in Allah will be saved based on clear evidence. Allah says:

[Quran 8:42]

– that he who perished (on that day) might perish by a clear proof (of His Sovereignty) and he who survived might survive by a clear proof (of His Sovereignty). Lo! Allah in truth is Hearer, Knower.

On the Day of Resurrection, despite that Allah the All-Knower knows the fate of each individual, He will still weigh the deeds to make everything clear to all.

We should follow the clear truth that we have been blessed with and avoid our clear enemy, shaytaan.
