Wafaa: Meaningful Islamic Baby Names

The word wafaa means to be loyal or to fulfil an obligation. The name can be used for both genders in different forms of the word. Wafaa is not directly mentioned in the Quran. However, awfaa, which is the variant, is mentioned in the Quran.

There are also examples of Wafaa in the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ.  The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ stated about the fulfilment of oaths through disobedience to Allah:

[Muslim]

“There is no fulfillment of a vow involving an act of disobedience.”

In Surah Al-Imran, Allah also mentions the fulfilment of vows. He says:

[Quran 3:76]

But yes, whoever fulfills his commitment and fears Allah – then indeed, Allah loves those who fear Him.

Someone who wants to give his child this name does so because he wants this child to be someone who fulfils his obligations and oaths to Allah as well as those around him.
